watervermorsing by die uitspan.

The old water furrow diverts
some of the water coming from the original Pampoenkraal fountain,
approximately 500 m southwest from here. Today the old furrow runs
inside a pipeline underneath the buildings on your left.
The old furrow supplied water
to the dam at the outspan, and later a pipeline was added that supplied
the whole town’s potable water until as late as 1901.
Following complaints in 1835 of
water running to waste at the outspan, proposals were made for the
construction of a dam wall measuring 150 x 30 ft. The Dutch Reformed
Church also undertook to keep the furrows clean.
This stream forms part of the source branches of the
Kuils River. |
